Overview
A 6-day grand tour of southern Morocco from Agadir, weaving together Ait Ben Haddou, the Dades and Todra gorges, the Merzouga dunes and the Draa Valley — the very best of desert and kasbah country.
Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Agadir → Taroudant → Ouarzazate
Your 6-day grand tour of southern Morocco begins in Agadir. Driving inland through the walled city of Taroudant and over the scenic Anti-Atlas mountains, you reach Ouarzazate — the film capital and gateway to the desert — with its famous Atlas Studios and the mighty Taourirt Kasbah.
Day 2: Ouarzazate → Ait Ben Haddou → Dades Valley
This morning you explore the magnificent UNESCO World Heritage kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a fortified earthen village made famous by countless Hollywood films. You then follow the Valley of the Roses and the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs to the dramatic Dades gorges.
Day 3: Dades → Todra Gorge → Merzouga
After a morning among the sculpted rock formations of the Dades Valley, you visit the towering Todra Gorge before reaching Merzouga. Here a sunset camel trek carries you deep into the giant Erg Chebbi dunes for a magical night in a Sahara desert camp.
Day 4: Merzouga → Rissani → Draa Valley → Zagora
Following a memorable Sahara sunrise, you discover the bustling market town of Rissani — cradle of Morocco's ruling Alaouite dynasty — then travel the palm-fringed Draa Valley, the country's longest oasis, to the desert town of Zagora.
Day 5: Zagora → Taznakht → Taroudant
Today you cross back over the Anti-Atlas mountains via Taznakht, a village renowned across Morocco for its handwoven Berber carpets, before returning to the walled city of Taroudant.
Day 6: Taroudant → Agadir
A final scenic drive through the fertile Souss Valley and its endless argan groves brings you back to Agadir, completing your grand tour of the Moroccan south.
