Overview
A 4-day desert tour from Rabat across the imperial cities and the Middle Atlas to the golden dunes of Merzouga, returning via the Todra Gorge, Ait Ben Haddou and Marrakech.
Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Rabat → Meknes → Volubilis → Fes
Drive from Rabat to the imperial city of Meknes and the Roman ruins of Volubilis, then continue to Fes for an overnight in the medieval heart of Morocco.
Day 2: Fes → Ifrane → Midelt → Merzouga
Travel south through Ifrane — the 'Switzerland of Morocco' — and the Middle Atlas cedar forests, then via Midelt and the Ziz Valley to Merzouga, where a camel trek carries you into the Erg Chebbi dunes for a night in a Sahara desert camp.
Day 3: Merzouga → Rissani → Todra Gorge → Dades
After a spectacular Sahara sunrise, you visit the market town of Rissani, then travel to the towering red cliffs of the Todra Gorge and the sculpted Dades Valley.
Day 4: Dades → Ouarzazate → Ait Ben Haddou → Marrakech
Following the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs, you reach Ouarzazate and the UNESCO kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, then cross the High Atlas to Marrakech.
